TBA Sarah Surgey

Sarah Surgey is an SCBWI children’s author who is based in the UK but published worldwide. Having spent the last twenty years working in education, her specialism lies within the translation and adaptations of children’s books, shaped by language and cultural context.

She has a BA Honours in English language and literature, specialising in children’s literature – so there is a lot of theory behind her creativity!

Sarah has three children’s picture books published: 'The Heavy Bag', 'The Slow Superhero' and 'My House My Home'. 2024 sees the release of four new children's books via publishers around the world including Daisy Lane Publishing.

'The Heavy Bag' has been celebrated and shortlisted between Matt Haig and Charlie Mackesy as one of 2022/23 best children’s grief books and was presented on World Book Day 2022 by Giovanna Fletcher.

'The Heavy Bag' was initially self-published but has now been acquired globally by differing publishing houses and to date translated into 16 languages.

'The Heavy Bag' is also used in collaboration with UNICEF and within classrooms across the UK and Germany as a teaching resource. It has also been endorsed by Australian Charity 'Feel The Magic'.

Passionate about putting books into children's hands and starting conversations through literature, Sarah is constantly creating new stories that tackle tricky but important subjects for children.
